Assisting with a chair liftQuinte SailAbility offers a variety of programs, intended to serve everyone from those who only want a relaxing outing on the water to those who want the excitement of racing.

Training is custom-designed to the needs of the student, allowing them to progress at their own pace.

Once qualified, students can reserve a boat for recreational sailing. There will also be other events such as regattas that will be held to test skills and for fun.

Quinte SailAbility's dock has 3 lifts installed to provide easy transfer to and from the boats. Both the dock and washrooms are wheelchair accessible.

Programs:

Note: PFDs (Personal Flotation Devices) and all training materials are provided. Students should bring a sun hat, light jacket, water bottle and sunscreen.

Basic Learn To Sail

InstructionBasic instruction is on the Access Dinghy. Here the student can qualify as a crew member or skipper, depending on both the student's ability and training objectives, based on the Canadian Yacht Association's White Sail Manual.

Training is hands-on.

White Sail I, II and III

Those who wish formal sail training can take Canadian Yachting Association's sail training, as modified for people with disabilities.

Successful completion of this program will allow a student to sail a small dinghy as crew or skipper anywhere in Canada and potentially could include non-able sail designed boats (depending on the individual student). Instruction will be on the Access Dinghy, Liberty and Martin 16".

Training is hands-on and obtaining the certificates also involves an on water test of practical skills and evaluation of general sailing knowledge.

Racing

This part of the program offers advanced training based on racing tactics and advanced boat handling. The student will learn to race with the emphasis on practical experience. All our boats are raced but most race training will use the Liberty and Martin 16.
